West Oak Lane Charter School is looking for Pennsylvania certified teachers for the 2013-2014 school year that can help us turn a "good" school into a "great" school. We are in our 16th year as a K-8 charter school located in the West Oak Lane section of Philadelphia. We have approximately 950 students. Our school offers a bright spacious, clean and safe environment for teachers and students. Data Support and Student Information Systems Administrator

Reports to: Lower and Middle School Principals

Summary of Position:  Provide oversight for WOLCS’s PowerSchool student information system, ensuring the accuracy and availability of student data required to support reporting and compliance functions to district, state and federal agencies. Related responsibilities include course scheduling, and supporting other school system applications, as related to attendance, discipline and the school’s annual enrollment lottery. Job requires the ability to exercise sound judgment, as well as take on responsibilities and challenges under tight time pressure and firm deadlines. Successful candidates must be able to evaluate existing systems, to offer considered opinions, and to recommend solutions.

Duties and Responsibilities

Student Information Systems Administration

Upload files to Power School from a variety of sources, and ensure integrity and consistency of Power School data

Convert and upload student performance data from WOLCS assessments – including SRI, DIBELS, Study Island and Success Maker – into student information systems

Establish Power School accounts for WOLCS personnel based on appropriate security level as well as parent and student accounts on the parent/student portal

Monitor and coordinate data entry of student attendance for the purpose of ensuring accuracy of data uploaded to the state and local accounting systems and maintaining current and accurate staff, student and parent information in Power School – including addresses, phone contacts, emergency information

Develop annually revise an enrollment manual to assist front office personnel in data entry to maintain an accurate student database

Maintain database program website –parent portal – for the purpose of providing current electronic media to the WOLCS community

Modify and oversee customizations of Power School SIS programs to fit specific internal needs at WOLCS

Schedule the installation and testing of product updates and improvements to WOLCS student information systems.

Technical Support & Training

Provide annual, in-service training for WOLCS personnel –assign passwords, and resolve lockout concerns for purpose of ensuring proper and efficient usage of system; notify users of system changes and updates

Train new users on Power School, including gradebook and attendance functions to ensure competence in their use of related features

Handle annual processes related to Power School – set up new calendar and roll over/archive information

Support all standard Power School and Power Teacher tasks

Assist school staff in navigation and troubleshooting Power School and handle Power Teacher needs as they arise

Develop and/or disseminate training materials and procedures in the proper use of Power School and all features.

               Assist with Power-Scheduler.

Data Management and Analysis

Evaluate and respond to data processing requests 

Assist administrators in the extraction of data for planning meetings

Work with WOLCS Academic Leadership Team and Senior Team to build custom reports and to extract data from Power School to use in data-driven decision-making processes

Work with the Academic Leadership Team and Senior Team to prepare user-friendly reports for members of the Board of Trustees and for school staff to evaluate the effectiveness of the academic program

Monitor student enrollment and collect and analyze demographic and student performance data to determine trends, forecast enrollment patterns and identify the need for programmatic changes.

Monitor and provide periodic reporting of student attendance and performance data based on WOLCS assessments – bi-weekly attendance data and at least monthly performance data – to members of the Academic Leadership team.

Prepare written materials – reports, memos, letters – for the purpose of documenting data analyses, providing written reference and or conveying information

Work with administrators to develop WOLCS data dashboards for quarterly reporting of demographic and performance data related to students and staff

Other General Duties

Develop and implement staff development activities to raise the competency levels regarding information technologies and to improve computer skills among teachers and staff

Work with the WOLCS IT Director to implement security measures that safeguard information in databases against accidental or unauthorized damage, modification or disclosure.

Assure that Power School, Food Service Solutions (FSS) and Pennsylvania Information Management System (PIMS) work together seamlessly

Stay abreast of advances in PIMS, Power School and related technologies, and recommend upgrades and other improvements.

Maintain professional competence through appropriate professional growth activities.

Perform related work as required.

Compliance Reporting (Ideal candidate would also be able to perform these functions)

In conjunction with the Academic Leadership Team assure that state mandated plans and reports – including the charter school annual report, educational technology report, professional education report, student services report and induction plan – are updated and filed with the state department of education.

Meet annual deadlines for input of data into Pennsylvania Information Management System (PIMS)

Provide technical support and answer user inquiries regarding state’s Comprehensive Planning Process, PIMS, and PDE’s e-portal

Assure accurate and timely reporting required by state and federal agencies and
               funding sources.


·       Knowledge of PowerSchool

·       Extensive knowledge of Excel

·       Demonstrate database experience and ability to create reports and problem solve data needs

·       High-level people skills that allow for effective support to users of technology at various skill levels


·         Bachelor’s Degree required in related field from an accredited college or university

·         PowerSchool certification preferred

·        Two to five years of job-related experience in a school setting, managing and maintaining a PowerSchool student information system, utilizing the PowerTeacher grade book program, and Parent Portal

·         K-12 Charter School experience a plus


·         A  compensation package will be offered based on experience and background

Paraprofessional (Full-time - 40hrs. per week/5 days a week)

Summary of Position:  Successful candidates will perform duties under direct supervision of a teacher or other professional staff.  Responsibilities may be instructional in nature and include delivery of direct services to students, or parents to help enhance student learning and development.  Provides additional student supervision to maintain an orderly school environment.

Duties and Responsibilities
 Supervise students in the classroom, halls, cafeteria, school yard, gymnasium, and on field trips.  Participated as assigned to monitor students during arrival and dismissal.  Support the enforcement of school policies and rules governing student conduct.  Record assessment data as directed by a teacher or other professional staff.  Distribute text books and other instructional materials as directed by a teacher or other professional staff.  Prepare bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations.  Maintain professional competence through appropriate professional growth activities.  Perform related work as required.


·         Associates Degree required or candidates with a High School Diploma must have a passing score from the ParaPro Assessment Test (will be given during the interview process), to be considered

·         Three to five years of satisfactory work experience with children in a classroom or day care setting

·         Experience with Middle School level students preferred

PSSA Math/Reading Prep Teacher - (PA Certified - K-8)
