West Oak Lane Charter School is looking for Pennsylvania certified teachers for the 2013-2014 school year that can help us turn a "good" school into a "great" school. We are in our 16th year as a K-8 charter school located in the West Oak Lane section of Philadelphia. We have approximately 950 students. Our school offers a bright spacious, clean and safe environment for teachers and students. Administration promotes innovation and works collaboratively with teachers and parents to ensure that our students are engaged and that they received a quality educational experience.

Full-time hourly Paraprofessional

Part-time hourly Lunchroom Aide

 

Paraprofessional

SUMMARY OF POSITION: Successful candidates will perform duties under direct supervision of a teacher or other professional staff. Responsibilities may be instructional in nature and include delivery of direct services to students, or parents to help enhance student learning and development. Provides additional student supervision to maintain an orderly school environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESSupervise students in the classroom, halls, cafeteria, school yard, gymnasium, and on field trips. Participate as assigned to monitor students during arrival and dismissal. Support the enforcement of school policies and rules governing student conduct. Record assessment data as directed by a teacher or other professional staff. Distribute text books and other instructional materials as directed by a teacher or other professional staff. Prepare bulletin board displays, exhibits, equipment, and demonstrations. Maintain professional competence through appropriate professional growth activities. Perform related work as required.

CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE: Associates Degree required or candidates with a High School Diploma and a passing score from the ParaPro Assessment Test of 462 will be considered. Three to five years of satisfactory work experience with children in a classroom or day care setting. Experience with Middle School level student a plus.

Part-time Hourly Lunchroom Aide

Summary of Position: Under the supervision of the Site Administrator assist school staff in the safety and well-being of students during lunch-time eating and playground activities.  Through meaningful playground and lunchroom supervision to enable students to safely enjoy group interaction and exercise.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned).                                                                                                                                         
Supervises students at play and during eating time
Maintain a harmonious atmosphere in eating area
Helps to guide pupils in developing good habits of sportsmanship
Encourages and promotes courtesy among children
Observes that safety rules are obeyed and applies school site discipline policy and student conduct code
Assist students resolve minor conflicts on the playground
Report unauthorized activities and unauthorized persons on school grounds to appropriate authority
Assist with the preparation and signing of accident reports if children are injured
Perform related duties as assigned

CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE:

High School Diploma is required. Must have prior experience supervising children/students. Knowledge of Safety rules and habits. Understand, implement, and give oral and written directions in English.  The successful results from Criminal, Fingerprint and Child Abuse clearances is required.
