THE 2022 BLACK HISTORY MONTH ESSAY & ARTS CONTEST

Students may submit one entry for judging in the Black History MonthEssay and Arts Contest. Submissions should showcase written and/or oraltalents of local students through a variety of art forms (original essay,poetry, or artwork; oratory re-enactment of a historical speech ortheatrical recitation of poetry).
Contest Submission Categories & First Place Cash Prize Values:
Elementary School Level: 100 words max or a 3 minute live performance:
$75 prize
Middle School Level: 300 words max or a 4 minute live performance:
$100 prize
High School Level: 500 words max or a 5 minute live performance:
$125 prize
Rul
es
: Students may submit an essay, or original work of art (canvas, photography,sculpture, etc.), song, dance, video, poetry or rap in lieu of a traditional essay. Artsubmissions must be accompanied with a detailed description of the piece, up to oneparagraph. Students may recite excerpts from a previously written monologue, poem ororation. Language and/or art form must be family-friendly.
No profanity or explicit content.
Eligibility
:
Contest is open to ALL students in elementary, middle or high school. Must live orattend school in one of the following zip codes: 19150, 19138, 19119 or 19118 or participate in aprogram at Finley Recreation Center. Student must be available to attend and present yoursubmitted piece during the awards program on Saturday, February 26th.
Judging
:
Entries must be typed or printed legibly.
Judging is based on content, research,originality, and delivery.
Submission Deadline
:
Monday, February 21.

Cash prizes guaranteed for first place winners only. Advisory Council to
determine any additional cash prizes. Certificate presented to all
participants. Awards will be presented during the Finley Recreation
Center Advisory Council's
Annual Black History Program on Saturday,
February 26 beginning at 2 p.m. at Finley Recreation Center.
