Our History

 
  • Established by the Ogontz Avenue Revitalization Corporation (OARC)
  • Opened September 1998, serving 548 K-4 students
  • Added Grade 5 in September 1999
  • First charter school renewal granted in 2002
  • Added Grade 6 in 2003
  • Added Grade 7 in 2004
  • Added Grade 8 in 2005, completing the charter school's intended K-8 program
  • In 2006, Dr. Debbera Peoples-Lee was hired as WOLCS CEO, ushering a new era in which proven business management concepts were incorporated into WOLCS administrative functions
  • In January 2011, WOLCS broke ground to expand the charter school
  • In October 2011, WOLCS completed its $16 million, 64,000 square foot expansion
  • In September 2012, WOLCS began its first full year with K-8 under one roof
