I chose to come to West Oak Lane charter school because of its academic success I think that charter school has a sense of family that I've never experienced anywhere else for the children for the staff for all individuals that step into this building we nurture our students we believe that all of our students have the capacity to achieve greatness and we're committed to Preparing up to that the administration's focus is on success of our students the children are my favorite things about West Oak Lane Charter School to see them walk in the door as kindergartners and see them graduate is 8th graders and I can visually see their group from K to 8 is the best thing ever my name is Emily McGinley I've been teaching for 11 years and I've been teaching at West Oak Lane charter school for 10 years all my kids I've had throughout the years I've have been just everything I look forward to seeing them everyday they come in pretty much excited and ready to learn and I just embrace the fact that sometimes they call me Mom my name is Daniel don't sort out I've been teaching 11 years 10 years here at West Oak Lane I teach third grade my favorite thing is having kids come visit me years after having them you know having them walk through and tell me how much they miss me and how much they love the school my relationship with his students is probably as a surrogate mother or grandmother my name is nefertina Carter I've been teaching for about 12 years I've been teaching for West Oak Lane for about 8 years I'd like to call my students family I'm like to remind them that we are family and we take care of each other by walk the hallways as much as I can going to classrooms to see how quickly their learning I give him high-fives when I know they're doing well I give him hugs to encourage him when they're not the school will continue to be a strong continue to produce a quality education for the students and continue to provide opportunity for teachers to come and teacher Educators to come in late I believe West Oak Lane is set apart are there charter schools because of the nurturing and the support that we provide to our students are family and especially our teachers and staff and career ready and that they're prepared to compete in this flat hyper-connected world My Hope for the future for West Oak Lane Charter school is that it extends beyond what we've done these past twenty years that our children continue to be able to leave these walls and go to the best high schools in the city
