this is Miss Zeigler, principal West Oak Lane charter school for those of you who missed the parent information webinar about our school reopening plan this is re-recording just of some highlights that session the purpose of the parent webinar and this recording is to share information about our plan for reopening school this school year and it's also to ensure that we're continuing to collaborate with all of you as we planned for our school we opening this year there were some factors that we needed to consider as all of you know we stayed fully virtual since the school closing back in March of 2020 this year we were planning to have a full School reopening bring all students back into the building at the same time 5 days a week unfortunately with the element of the Delta variant of the coronavirus those plans have changed some of those really critical factors that we took under consideration the Delta variant community and virus transmission light switch continue to increase at this time the number of children being impacted by the transmission of the Delta variant of the Coronavirus the child vaccine eligibility age which is 12 years which means that the majority of our school population will not be back to me that because our children are just too young and also our ability to test students and staff I'm happy to report that we are collaborating with chop and health department to get testing for our staff all of our staff have already been tested when we started our professional development last week and we will be partnering temp test students as frequently as we can the other factor is the school and class size we know that wearing a mask is one of the greatest mitigation measures that we can put in place but also social distance and while the guy that's right now is recommended that schools separate students at least three feet apart if possible we know the safest distance is 6 feet and so in order Cheeto cheese sticks or 3 ft of social distancing we weren't able to bring back a full class of students all at one time in addition we have over a thousand students who attend West Oak Lane Charter and so we thought that the safest way to proceed at this time would be by cutting the class sizes and have enabling our ability to social distance to much as possible and to keep based on the factors that we took into consideration we have made the decision that returning to school using a hybrid learning model would be best our school Community for the upcoming school year using a cobra model enables us to break through this into two smaller groups cohort and cohort fee students in Co word a school in person on Mondays and Tuesdays Thursdays Fridays students in coalport PA will work you think miss me or on their own at home school person on Thursdays and Fridays and they will learn or on their own home on Mondays and Tuesdays Wednesday everyone in the entire school will remain at home and vertically on Wednesday Andy will all go to your Chromebooks have an in-person lesson with the teacher again please when your child school for in person call Larry s room with teacher on the days when your child is home or complete activities of lessons on their own Wendy's the log into the computer with their teacher and receive a live lesson so in all students will have live instruction from their teachers 3 days in person one day on the Chromebook 2 days of learning on their own asynchronously from home what are the benefits of implementing a hybrid learning model well one it gets students back into the building for some in person learning last year we did a fully virtual learning model and we know that is best for students to learn in the building brings to the center of the building and able to them to get face-to-face instruction and person with teachers and helps them to connect with their peers in person that's really critical for their social and emotional health Focus will be on Bridging the Gap we will use the data we've been collecting before. While losing students were learning from home that will be collecting the school year to determine where students drinks are where they may need some additional support we'll also continue to focus on trucks no practices Inforum person learning continue to focus on partnering with parents so that we could use help support the students as well that we keep you in the loop with what we're doing here at school going to continue to provide professional development for our teachers so Wednesday's will continue to be a half day of learning for students I'm like last year students will be logged onto the computer until 12 in the afternoon on Wednesdays learning reading and math from their teachers after student loan off at 12 noon we will engage teachers and professional development to ensure that they are continuing to learn it'll continue to make environment climate and culture a huge Focus we will continue with our second step program to make sure that students are learning how to identify an address and deal with their feelings we will also focus on bigger which means that just as we did last year we will be teaching grade level standards why would teaching grade level standard we will also again be using our date to make sure that we're identifying those areas where students need some additional support and learning in order to access grade level content and that'll be some of the work that students will be doing on their asynchronous even while they were at home some of it will be practice to reinforce what they learned while they were in school with their teacher and some of that work will be free work to help that the foundation and Bill background knowledge so that when they come into class they can learn new Concepts we will continue to review all kinds of data such as our academic data and all students will take a diagnostic test using IRA as he had in the previous years we will continue to look at attendance and we will look at discipline and climate Gina all of this information will help to inform us on the best decisions to make moving forward to see all of our students up for success an intentional focus on our environment climate and culture is going to be absolutely critical as we transition students back into an empress and learning environment we will do that through the implementation of a school-wide positive behavior in the citizen incentive system we will also continue again with our social and emotional learning program second step and will provide other support through the use of a counselor ananas social worker and we will be partnering with a mental health agency Carson Valley right here in our own building rigor like last year we are going to each grade level standards students who have high standards to meet but we will support them to make sure that they're all growing and making progress towards Mastery on those standards it's awful for the people that students know what they need to learn and be able to do in order to be proficient at their grade level tools like I ready help us repeat instruction for students it means that after they take their diagnostic assessment lessons are going to pack what you called my past is that for each individual student and helps to bridge gaps with students name struggling and also helps to reinforce or in which areas where students are doing really well so we encourage you to make sure that your child understands the importance of completing all the Simons weather you're physically in school or working at home all of those assignments through all of our resources will help to make sure that your student is working at grade level and is successful and ready to move to the next year's what's the point charter school has a new start and end time for students the school district of Philadelphia has a sign a new start time based on a tiered schedule some schools are starting at 7:30 8:30 or 9:30, date the school bus schedule it is a shortage of bus drivers across the city of Philadelphia and so this needed to be put in place order to address that please note that what's the point charter school did not have an option to select our start time but we have decide that way instead of starting at 7:30 we will begin at 7:45 so the school day for students beginning this year will be from 7:45 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays Tuesdays Thursdays and Fridays the schedule for Wednesdays will be 7:45 a.m. to 12 p.m. please note arrival time is 7:45 to 8 each day we will not have the breakfast program before school as we've had in previous years the reason for that is because students who will be arriving earlier than 7:45 would need to be supervised all in one common area and one of our mitigation measures to keep students safe and protected from Catching the coronavirus is to bring them together in congregate settings so when students enter the building between 7:45 and they will report directly to their classroom instead of going to the cafeteria or another area with students from great levels and more classes so again all students will report directly to their classrooms and will not come for breakfast instead breakfast will be delivered and eaten by all students in their own home room classroom beginning at 7:45 also please note that students will be marked late at 8:01 the first day of school for students in group a is Wednesday September 8th 2021 students in group a will arrive to school between 7:45 and 8 a.m. this will be a half day ending at 12 p.m. student and Group B will not log on to class on Wednesday September 8th Ruby students will come to school in person. Thursday September 9th they should arrive to school between 7:45 a.m. and 8 a.m. this will also be a half day for students attending at 12 p.m. student and will not come on September 9th nor will they log on for plants please note that the start time of 7:45 on either the 8% for group or the 9th for Group B is for students first through eighth grade students who are in kindergarten on in Group a will arrive at 9 on Wednesday September 8th and students who are in kindergarten in group b mine on Thursday September 9th groups A and B kindergarten through eighth-grade will all stay home and log on for virtual class on Friday September all students must log in by 8 sharp this will be a practice day so that teachers can help students navigate the new platforms as well as to make sure that everyone has your device up and working and are set for the asynchronous days and for Wednesday instruction online if you do not have a phone book or it's not in working condition you need to come to the school before school begins on September 10th students will still be in uniform the school year and must wear the uniform on the days that they attend school for in person learning please make special note that student and 5th will continue to wear the navy blue bottoms and white tops just as they wore in lower school students will not transition to the gray bottoms and blue blazer until 6th grade which is officially their middle school years we will sell the gym shirt here at the school and we also sell the ties the health and safety our students and entire School Community continues to be our number one priority that said it is our goal to get students back into the building old time learning 5 days a week in person we will continue to pay attention to the numbers in our community as well as across our school in order to make a decision when it says everyone to return for full Empire Larry next I'll leave you some of the mitigation measures that we're putting in place in order to keep students safe as we slowly transition back to school the senior leadership team continues to be connected with the various Health departments in the CDC as well as shop in order to understand best practices for moving forward with in person we are also adhering to their guidance around how to respond should a case or an outbreak occur in a particular classroom grade level or the school in classrooms will be six feet apart in order to provide his social distancing from front as well as side to side seated next to another student there will be sneeze guards in front of students around students as they sit at your desk and another layer of protection everyone in our school Community are required to wear a mask a well-fitting mask is the best mask for all students and staff to wear no one will be permitted Across the Threshold of the front door without having a mask on each day we will also provide every student with a face shield that can be worn in combination with I still may not be worn in place of a mask that can be worn in combination with a mask we're asking all families to have an extra stock pile of mess and your home students are wearing disposable mask those masks are to be thrown away and changed every day and students are wearing a mask that can be reused those masks need to be washed out every night and home to dry recommend that you have more than one in case one doesn't fully dry by the next school day we will have some additional masks here on site in case someone shows up it forgets to bring your mask any particular. every teacher's desk in communal areas such as the main office will have a clear barrier to get there what layer of protection between adults and students and adults and other adults who adults who work at the school and adults who are visiting the school scanning machine located at the main entrance door as well as the lower school Insurance where each visitor to the school will pass through and have their temperature taken the temperature will be displayed at the Appleton mall by our security staff who has 100 points will be from entering the building we will be cleaning our services belly throughout the day and at the end of each school day in addition to wiping down surfaces we have just misting machines Express by surfaces books material students and adults touch in classrooms this machine will be used on a daily basis and we will have a deep cleaning day every Wednesday when everyone is at home this year students will eat breakfast and lunch in their own classrooms we will not be using the cafeteria as this is a communal space where we will be bringing multiple class or grade levels together is that students will remain with your same group of students in their own classrooms students will eat lunch and have the shield in front of them on their desk helps to continue to provide a layer of protection even when they have to remove their masks to eat we replace our water fountains with water cooler stations Charter School water bottle spout and students will be able to order from here we're asking that parents fill the water bottles before students come to school so that don't have to spend precious instructional time refilling water bottles every day but the stations are there should have student forget to fill their water bottle or need to refill during the day we will be teaching and reinforcing hand fantization that means hand washing and sanitizing there's been a sanitizer station installed in every single classroom that will remain. all throughout the school year where students May cleanse their hands we will be using a screening tool and asking you parent to use a screening tool to check the symptoms have your child before they leave for school each and every day do not feel well please take your temperature and you should look out for are listed many of these symptoms with symptoms of allergies with common cold and the flu unfortunately there's no way to determine if the symptoms are really symptoms of covid-19 unless the individual is tested so we have to treat every symptom that's on this list symptoms covid-19 and please no just one or more of these your child stay home for the day if any of these symptoms at school you have signed a consent form we may test your child here and if you have not signed the consent form you will be asked to pick your child up from school immediately walks family we are stronger and better together and it takes a partnership between home and school to rate healthy and successful children we do understand how important it is to get students back to M person learning full-time but we want to do that as safely as a possible as we watch the data around what's happening in our communities and our school as soon as it's safe to do so we will return in person life I do believe that starting out slowly will give us an opportunity to put our practices in place and see what happens on behalf of dr.
